Hummus recipe variations

We love to have hummus with veggie sticks (carrot, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and celery) in the afternoons. It is great food for parties and also as a breakfast with whole grain bread, tomato slices, lettuce, cucumber slices, carrot or avocado. Sometimes I put it as a dressing on a tabuleh salad.

Traditional hummus recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons tahini paste
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon grounded cumin
  • water as needed

Method

Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor. You can add water to get a desired consistency. Blend until you get a creamy dip.

Low fat hummus recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon grounded cumin
  • water as needed

Method

Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor until smooth and creamy. You can add water to get a desired consistency.

Beetroot hummus recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 batch traditional hummus recipe
  • 1 small beetroot, pealed and chopped

Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor.
